Check out the island of Eleuthera in the Bahamas!

The island of Eleuthera is the birthplace of the Bahamas and was founded in 1648 by Captain W. Sayles and his group of Puritans. The word Eleuthera means "freedom" in Greek. The island still maintains that unspoiled character which prompted the name of Eleuthera over 350 years ago. The Eleuthera chain of islands includes Spanish Wells - a famous fishing stronghold - and Harbour Island which attracts celebrities for its beauty and nightlife.

Eleuthera has dozens of unspoiled pink and white sand beaches along both the Caribbean and the Atlantic sides of its 110 mile length. Eleuthera is a beach-lover's paradise. There are many activities on Eleuthera - scuba-diving on some world famous sites, shelling, beaching, fishing (including great bonefishing), cave and Blue Hole exploring, conching, and whelking - just to name a few. The island of Eleuthera also has many natural wonders and places of interest, one of which is the Glass Window bridge which has amazing-deep ocean blue on one side & shallow, turquoise waters just feet away on the other. Other natural wonders include Preacher's Cave (home of the early Puritans) as well as the unbelievable colors of the sunsets.

The humble hospitality of the islanders is a welcome respite from the rest of the fast-paced world. Eleutherans are trusting and trustworthy people. From one end of the island to the other, Eleutherans live in "settlements" and each has something that makes it different from the others. For example, Tarpum Bay was named for the huge numbers of tarpon fish that used to be in that area.

Eleuthera is just approx. 220 miles from Miami, Florida. With three airports, this quaint paradise is easily accessible by a fairly short plane ride. Come and let Eleuthera work its soothing magic on you and revive your weary spirit while you experience some of the most amazing, "paintbox-colored" sights in the world.
